Job with the long 'o', not the short 'o'.

Job is an interesting man. He is quite dramatic and struggles to understand why all these bad things have happened to him. He feels he has done nothing to deserve it. Oh, and he's got three friends to help him figure things out. But my favorite part of this book of the Bible is when God gives Job the smackdown and puts him in his place. Starting in Job 38, the Lord asks what may very well be a hundred rhetorical questions to Job. What I've learned through this passage of Scripture is that God simply wants humility from us, not sacrifice. Whether we sin or don't sin, it doesn't change who God is. He is omniscient, all-powerful, and unchangeable.

"If you sin, how does that affect Him? If your sins are many, what does that do to Him? If you are righteous, what do you give to Him, or what does he receive from your hand? Your wickedness affects only a man like yourself, and your righteousness only the sons of men." -Job 35:6-8

I love God's reminder that He is the First and the Last, the Author and Creator of everything. So today, read Job 38-42. It won't take more than 15 minutes of your day. Through these verses, God has revealed His power and strength to me. My prayer for you is that you'll feel just as overwhelmed by His might as I did, and that you will be humbled to know your God.
